We ARe Workshop // December 6, 2025

What We're Building Together

I'm hosting a free 3-hour workshop where you'll learn to transform your artwork into interactive Snapchat lenses. By the end of the afternoon, you'll have a working AR experience that brings your art to life when people scan with their phone.

No tech background needed. No expensive software. Just you, your laptop, and your creativity.

Why AR? Why Now?

After spending the last year deep in Snapchat's Lens Studio, I've discovered something exciting: AR has become a powerful medium for artists to add new dimensions to their work.

Imagine someone pointing their phone at your poster and watching it come alive. Picture a mural that reveals hidden layers through AR. Envision gallery pieces that tell stories beyond the canvas.

This technology is accessible now, and I'd like our community to be among the early adopters.

What You'll Learn

Hour One: The Possibilities

We'll explore what's happening in AR art right now—the opportunities, the platforms, and how artists are already making waves in this space. Then we'll dive straight into Lens Studio, the free software that makes it all possible.

Hour Two: Building Your First Lens

This is where it gets hands-on. Using a starter project I've prepared, you'll create an image tracking lens step-by-step. We'll use the workshop flyer as our first target so that everyone can test their lens immediately.

The magic happens when you scan a piece of paper and watch AR content appear in your camera. That "aha" moment is why I'm doing this workshop.

Hour Three: Make It Yours

Once you grasp the basics, you can swap in your own artwork and customize the experience. We'll cover publishing strategies and sharing tips, and I'll provide you with resources to continue creating after the workshop ends.

What Makes This Different

Low friction, high impact. I'm providing a starter Lens Studio project with everything pre-configured. You'll learn by manipulating and customizing rather than building from scratch. This means less troubleshooting, more creating.

You leave with something tangible. Not just knowledge—an actual published AR lens featuring your work that you can share immediately.

Community-focused. I'm not gatekeeping what I've learned. The stronger our collective becomes with these tools, the better it will be for all of us.

The Bigger Picture

I'm building a platform for AR muralists and want our collective to be part of it from the ground up. But this workshop focuses on sharing knowledge and elevating our community's capabilities.

With access to emerging tools like AR, we can push the boundaries of what's possible in our scene. I've seen what this medium can do, and South Bay Artist Collective is perfectly positioned to become innovators in the AR art space.

Pre-Workshop Prep

To make the most of our time together, please:

  1. Install Lens Studio: https://ar.snap.com/lens-studio-dl
    • Prepare your artwork files: PNG or JPG format
    • Recommended size: 2000x2000 pixels or smaller

Why I'm Sharing This

I believe in the abundance mindset. Teaching you doesn't diminish what I know—it amplifies what we can all create together. Plus, I genuinely think our community will do incredible things with these tools.

If you're an artist curious about AR, this is your low-stakes entry point—no prior experience needed. Just show up ready to experiment.

Let's bring our art into the future—together.
